About Betsy A. Riley

Welcome to my world! In my day job I try to make the world a better place through science and technology (using supercomputers). By night I am an author/artist working towards the same goals, but with different methods.  Part of that mission is providing tips to new writers on my blog. If you find them helpful, you can support the blog by clicking the donate button.

I grew up in a small college town in Kentucky, then spent 35+ years working at a National Laboratory in Tennessee. Now I’m in Maryland, working for the Federal government, and happily married at last. Outside of art and literature, dancing has played the biggest role in my life.

In this blog I will talk about my life, my writing and artwork, and there’s sure to be some dancing. My first book, THE COMET, was published by BlueDragonPress, May 2011, and is available for sale there and at Amazon.com, merchandise with images from THE COMET are also available.

Since that first book, I have published dozens of short stories and poems in magazines and anthologies. I have also become an invited speaker at area SFF/Horror cons.

  1. Enjoyed reading your site. Refreshing and interesting. I am 49, and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at age 44. I also write a blog, which is aimed at offering fellow sufferers and caregivers support, making them feel not quite so alone in their daily struggles. If you’d care to take a look or pass on my blog site http://elainebenton.blogspot.com/ to anyone you think might benefit – that would be great. Keep writing, and wishing you success in all you do. Best wishes, Elaine

  2. Hi Betsy. We’ve spoken briefly via LinkedIn and I wondered if you’d be interested in doing one of these: http://morgenbailey.wordpress.com/blog-interviews. If not, I’ll quite understand and wish you well with your writing. Morgen

Nice to meet you in cyberspace. I have two small children of my own that are a challenge enough to care for. Inheriting four children with a new husband must have been hard. Hope it’s also reaped some rewards.
